If you follow me on Snapchat, you’ll have noticed that I end up going to The Gatehouse Restaurant every week. I’ve been for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and have never had a less than wonderful experience. Being a vegetarian living in a small town, I’m glad I’ve found a local restaurant where I have some choice on the menu and will always be looked after. I regularly go here for hot chocolates too, which are also superb.
I’ve become so accustom to the place that all the staff, including the owner, knows my order off by heart. As I’ve been working from home and had a part-time course in the area, I usually go here for lunch. The Ciabatta with melted brie, basil pesto, tomato and mixed leaves is my favourite. Never in my life have I ever been particularly excited when it came to soup but at The Gathouse, they create a fresh new option everyday and it’s always gluten-free. My favourties so far has been the carrot, coriander & coconut or the honey and roast butternut squash. They also have gluten free pasta and ciders available.
The owner, Alan, has had over 20 years experience with running award-winning restaurants around the world before opening his own here in Maynooth, Co. Kildare. The Gatehouse is located just off main street beside Maynooth castle, which you can view from both the indoor and outdoor seating areas. The peaceful atmosphere is matched by the friendly, welcoming staff that work there. The price point is very reasonable and I always recommend The Gatehouse when anyone asks for the best place to eat in Maynooth (which is none as the culinary capital of North Kildare).
